Dear friends, I am thrilled to announce that I have been asked to be special guest and speaker at Beadesigner International‘s February meeting! The meeting will take place at the Lexington Arts & Crafts Society, 130 Waltham St., Lexington, MA on Wednesday, February 25 at 7pm (weather permitting!).. I will be presenting several of my beaded dog pins, pendants, and artworks. Bead embroidery kits and supplies will be also available for sale. All are welcome to attend! Dear friends, I have just listed a new framed pet portrait in my Etsy shop! A white Afghan Hound! This piece was created by stitching tiny Japanese size 15 seed beads to felt. Beadwork was mounted to a hot pink Ultrasuede backing and framed in a white 8 x 8″ shadowbox frame. Please click the pic for more details:

This weekend, I listed a brand new beaded dog pendant in my Etsy shop – a tiny Beagle! This piece was inspired by Miss P, the adorable little dog who won Best in Show at this year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!

This brooch was created by stitching tiny glass seed beads to felt 2-3 at a time. It measures 1″ wide x 1.5″ tall – the perfect pendant size! Please click the pics for more details…

Dear friends, check out my latest custom order – a beaded Miniature Schnauzer pin pendant. This piece was inspired by photos of my customer’s dog named Savy.

First, I cut out some felt shapes and stitched them to a piece of stiff beading foundation. Then, I stitched on eyes and a nose. These are special glass doll eyes which are attached to a wire. The eyes measure 1-mm, and the nose is 2-mm. Yes, I could also use a drop bead for the nose and seed beads for the eyes, but I really like the glass doll eyes because they are more round.

Next, I began stitching tiny Japanese size 15 seed beads to create the dog’s face. The face is always a challenge because it convey’s the dog’s personality. It is also a very small piece of felt – just 3/4″ tall x 1/2″ wide!

Once, I complete the face, the rest of the dog’s body seems easy to bead.. Until I add a second layer of beaded fringe..

To learn how to do layered beaded fringe, check out my Yorkshire Terrier beading pattern on Etsy.. It takes precise stitching, and a LOT of patience, but I think the results are worth it.. What do you think? :)

Happy Spring! There is a new beaded pet portrait available for sale in my Etsy shop. A West Highland White Terrier!

This cute little dog was created by stitching tiny glass seed beads to felt (2-3 beads at a time) using a strong nylon thread. White beaded fringe was layered using Japanese size 15 seed beads. The beaded fringe actually moves to reveal more seed beads beneath! Several different shades of white, gray, black & pink beads were used. This pooch is also wearing a tiny sterling silver heart charm on his collar! Beadwork was sewn to a piece of dark blue Ultrasuede, and mounted in an 8×8″ white shadowbox frame. Dear friends, it has been awhile since I posted any progress on my Russian bead painting.. I guess I have been busy working on Etsy orders! :) Here are a handful of photos which I have previously posted on my Facebook page:

I am stitching tiny glass seed beads and vintage crystals to my gray felt Kremlin. So far, the beadwork measures 40cm wide x 24cm tall. How do you think it looks so far? Today, I am thrilled to announce that my largest beaded painting entitled Radio City has been juried into Cambridge Art Association’s 14th National Prize show. Honouring the vision of Michael Rush, Founding Director of the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University. With work selected by Caitlin Doherty, Curator & Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University. The National Prize Show will feature artists working in all media and styles.

Exhibition runs May 15 – July 25th, 2015.

Last night, I went to the Cambridge Art Association’s 14th National Prize Show reception. Works in all mediums were selected by Caitlin Doherty, Curator & Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan State University.

Only 79 pieces out of 1200 entries were selected for this show. I am absolutely thrilled that my beaded painting, Radio City, is one of them! This piece consists of bead embroidery on canvas. You can view Radio City May 15- June 25, 2015 at University Place Gallery in Harvard Square.

University Place Gallery:

124 Mt. Auburn St. Cambridge MA, 02138 Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm  •  Saturday 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The other half of the exhibition is installed at the Kathryn Schultz Gallery located at 25 Lowell St., Cambridge, MA. There you can also check out the Small Wall Project.

Every 4-6 weeks, original small works will be shown here. Of course, these pieces are available for sale. Many artists will donate 50% of the sale to the Cambridge Art Association so they can continue to expand their gallery space.
