There is a new beaded poodle available for sale in my Etsy shop! This is a tiny black bead-embroidered poodle which was made with size 11 and size 15 seed beads. This piece can be worn as a pin or a pendant. This design can also be made in your favourite color upon request:)

I have also created new beaded Pug earrings! These are very tiny. They were made with size 15 seed beads and sterling silver fish hooks. These earrings were made in a freeform peyote stitch technique – they actually move when you touch them. This pair of earrings sold VERY quickly. Currently, they are listed on Etsy as made-to-order. It seems the holiday season is upon us now – at least here in the retail world. Last December, my Etsy shop was VERY busy, especially the week before Christmas. So, this year, I have posted new holiday ordering deadlines to help customers place their gift orders in a timely fashion.

Any order placed after these dates will be considered a rush order and will incur an additional fee. Bead embroidery kits & beading patterns also make great gifts – these are ready to ship. Lately, I have been busy gearing up for a busy holiday season. I have stocked my Etsy shop with more bead embroidery kits, cut out felt doggie shapes for beading, organized my work space, stocked up on shipping supplies and promotional items.. AND, I have also had some time to make new items!

Check out these cute Pug Love dangly dog earrings! These were made by hand-stitching tiny glass seed beads to tiny piece of felt. They feature sterling silver/onyx ear wires, and tiny sterling silver heart charms:) Also available is a new doggie pin – a brown and white beaded Greyhound pin! My New Year is off to a busy start! I have just finished making new gray beaded Pug earrings -  these are now available for sale at my Etsy shop. I have received an order for 4 custom beaded pet pins (check out the brindle Pitbull I started making on Facebook or Instagram).. and I accepted a commission to create a small bead-painting (progress on this coming soon)..

If that wasn’t enough, I am still working on my Russian bead-painting, plus I plan to start writing a new beading pattern soon.. If there are specific bead embroidery patterns, kits, and doggie designs that you’d like to see in the coming year, please post them in the comments.. Over the past week or so, I have been busy working on an order for 4 custom beaded pet pins.. Here are the first two dogs I have completed:

The first is a beaded black Labrador Retriever pin pendant. This one was made using tiny size 15 seed beads 13/0 charlottes. The ears & tail were made using a freeform peyote stitch technique. This piece measures about 4.5cm x 7cm wide…

The second is a Brindle Pit Bull pin pendant. This is the same design as my beaded Blue-Nose Pit Bull. The texture of this piece was created by layering tiny seed beads over other seed beads in several different browns. How do you think it looks? This week, I finished working on a special custom order. One of the pins I made was a beaded orange & white cat named Butterscotch. He was made by stitching Japanese size 15 seed beads  and 13/o charlottes to felt. I layered the beads to create a furry texture. He measures approx. 5.5cm x 5.5cm. Do you like him? During the past couple of weeks, I have been busy working on a commissioned bead-painting. This one will feature quite a different subject than I usually bead – a Silver-Laced Wyandotte Rooster!

I started with a sketch which I used to created a template. Using the template, I cut out several layers of felt in different shapes. These layers will help create the relief aspect of my beadwork. Then, I began stitching mostly Japanese size 15 seed beads to my felt foundation (as well as a few larger beads). I used a few different grays and white, as well as red &  yellow.

Once I reached the bird’s wing, I decided to try doing bead embroidery with long Magatamas! These are the large oblong shaped white beads in the photo above. I got the crazy idea to use these as feathers!

Alternating between Magatamas and size 15′s, I worked my way up the bird’s wing. Then, I switched to the smaller clear Magatamas. These are more round then the other beads, but their hole is off-center, so it creates an interesting effect.. What do you think?

After I completed the wings, I continued beading the rest of the rooster’s body.. BUT, I am not finished yet! Please check my Facebook page for the latest updates on this project..

Last week, I had the opportunity to travel to a much warmer climate – I went to Mexico! This was my first time visiting the country and it is just beautiful. It is very much like the paradise I imagined!!

I stayed in Playa del Carmen just south of Cancun. Of course, I went to the beach and did a few touristy excursions (Tulum, Xel-Ha, and snorkeling in Cozumel), but I also did a little shopping on 5th Avenue. Anyone who has already been there knows this is not easy. Bargaining is the name of the game, and everyone is trying to sell you something whether you need it or not. I was shopping for local handmade goods. I found quite a few shops selling many beaded jewelry items! I asked permission to take this photo of some beaded bracelets I saw:

Women who live in the tiny villages of Mexico make this beaded jewelry to support themselves and their families. Any purchase you make helps support the local economy, and is greatly appreciated. So, of course I picked up a few bracelets to take home. Which one do you like best?

 On your next visit to Mexico, stop and look at the beadwork. Perhaps you will find something special to take home, too:)

This week, I finished a new commissioned painting featuring  a beaded Wyandotte chicken! This piece consists of extreme bead embroidery stitched to a painted canvas. I used Czech & Japanese glass seed beads of all sizes. I also used Magatamas and Czech dagger beads. This bird’s feathers really move when you touch them! This piece is a small work measuring just 8″ x 8″..  My next project will be a custom beaded chicken pin.. Who knew chickens were so popular?

After a long hiatus, I am finally getting back to working on my Russian bead-painting…

I stitched custom sterling silver crosses to the top of the onion domes (10 in all). Then, I wire-wrapped each spire to complete the look. I also cut out a few more layers of felt to help build up a few of the chapels… It took me several hours to stitch everything together.. Now, my beaded St. Basil’s Cathedral is complete! What do you think? I think its time to begin the next phase! :O

Check out my latest custom order – a beaded rooster brooch! :)

This one is called a Moa (Hawaiian for chicken) and he lives on the island of Kauai. I created him by stitching tiny Japanese seize 15 seed beads to a felt foundation. I used more than 10 different colors, including blue 1 x 4mm micro bugle beads. I also layered beaded fringe for his feathers to create realism. This piece is a pin which can also be worn as a pendant.

6.5cm x 5cm

Something tells me this won’t be the last beaded chicken pin I create..

This week, I had a chance to work on my bead-embroidered Russian painting.. I am working on a small section which will be the door just below the Kremlin clock tower.

I have used all kinds of beads: cubes, bugle beads, hex cuts, Tilas, and 11/o and 8/o seed beads so far.. If I had known about Half-Tila beads, I probably would have used some… Oh well, maybe next time.. :(

This small beaded section measures 10cm x 12cm.

I still have a long way to go on this piece.. What do you think?  :O
